The September 1999 issue of APC has an article on online banking (pp
92) with the "big 4". The first two sentences of the Westpac review
states "Unlike its major competitors, Westpac has looked beyond the
Windows crowd for its online banking services. It offers support for
multiple operating systems, including Mac OS and Unix."
It's not clear to me that the ANZ and NAB online banking software will
only run under Bill-ware, as they're Java-based and the little screen
snapshot appears to show the banking application running inside
Netscape.
It's only the Commonwealth Bank which seems to have an explicit
Bill-ware application, rather than browser-based.
I'd urge people to give the "big 4" the flick, anyhow. Advance Bank
(bought by St. George) was the first to start online banking, and
St. George have a password facility (helps stop people using lost
cards to withdraw money over the counter, since forging isn't that
hard). Besides, St. George have civilised banking hours. At least they
have some remnant of the notion of "service".
