That reminded me that my mum, a DTP/contract secretary gets clients every so
often that have their thesis or resume on floppy only to have it wiped by
their mobile phone.
Sometimes the magnetism when a phone is switching cells or do that
beep-dada-beep noise is easily enough to fry a floppy. I think it depends on
the phone model and make, older Ericssons seem to be bad offenders.
The client will get out of the car, hand over the disk to have something
designed or printed and mum will be like - This disk is blank... and they
are like no its not i just got it today ad put data on it this morning...
So yeah watch out for mobile phones and floppys.
My motto is "Back up what you can't afford to lose" that may mean backing up
every minute if you cant afford to loose that work!

Just remembered another one :)
I used to work at Macquarie Uni as an operator back in 91. If I had a
dollar for the number of times students came to me, desperate because their
thesis or assignment was on a floppy disk that couldn't be read anymore, I
would have been earning a decent salary :) So many people kept only one
floppy disk. Obviously these days with HD and networks, people don't use
floppies so much, but it still happens ocassionally. Moral - never have the
only copy of something on only one floppy disk.
