ok, fixed the hostname simply by adding the host to
/etc/hosts
192.168.0.71 laser laser.oceania.net laser
btw, anthem is the machine I am printing from and laser
the name of the machine I am printing to
now the error in /var/log/samba/log.anthem is
[2000/08/02 16:56:59, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(209)
anthem (192.168.0.70) couldn't find service laserjet2p
[2000/08/02 16:57:14, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(209)
anthem (192.168.0.70) couldn't find service laserjet2p
