Calling all you Distro zealots!! This is your chance to make a convert!
Unfortunately I can't make the installFest, but right now I am looking at a full
re-install. The machine is a IBM P-200 64 Ram, onboard Cirrus Logic graphics card and
Soundblaster Vibra 128, mainly used as desktop/web surfing machine(33k dial-up). Disk
size limited to 2 Gb (it's dual boot for the rest of my family). If it runs on my old
486 in 300 Meg disk space as well, I'll be even happier. Abilities to hack HTMl
together or intro to Linux progrraming might be appreciated.
I started with Red Hat 6.2 but it stopped liking my floppy drive (give me a month or
two before I start compiling kernels), and seemed to chug at times.
I tried SuSe 6.1 I had lying around, it ran quicker but I prefer Gnome, and I had to
work hard to get it to fit into 2 gig, god knows what packages I got rid of and might
want.
Deb 2.2 is out and I'm not so afraid of 'getting my hands dirty' but after using Linux
all of 3 months, am I taking on too much? <current front-runner>
I know there are others, so sell me on the vitrues!!
So the challenge to you is, in one e-mail give me the highlights/lowlights of me
switching to <insert religous flavour here!>
Best of Luck gentlemen.... (and yes I've seen the latest Aust. PC mag which does this,
but more substance would have been nicer)
