>From memory, the RPMs don't upgrade your databases after they install the
version 7 executables. Read the documentation that comes with them, plus
that of PostgreSQL to find the necessary update script. If you don't have
any databases that you were using under 6.5, rm /var/postgres (I think,
check your distro setup and look for where it keeps the databases).

Have a look on RPMfind.net -> there's a good set of them that are very
nicely modularised.
