I agree. I recall the newbie incident I got involved in a couple of months
back where a newbie was _abused_ for his lack of understanding. I had
somebody say to me not so long ago that they were too _scared_ to post
their questions to the SLUG list. What's the point, when SLUG isn't there
to help people learn about Linux any more? i.e. be there for those who had
questions about Linux, wanted to learn about Linux, or wanted to discuss
how to do things in / with Linux?
I think some of us need to _think_ a bit more before we hit the "Send"
button. There's no prize simply for the most posts. All that we do
is damage our own credibility, and that of Linux as well - this is a
_public_ list.
My e-mail about the idea of a new seperate list, or else redirecting
people to an existing general discussions list or IRC channel, was just
_one_ suggestion for trying to help address the "OT" problem. (Its just
acknowledging that there _is_ a "community" of SLUGgers, and the members
of that community may and will want to discuss issues other than merely
technical Linux issues.)
Any other ideas?
