My 2c... please feel free to delete
I started out as a newbie on this list, i was about 13 - 14 at the
time, so ive basically grown up on it... (sounds like a weetbix ad)
anyway, i can remember boggling at the technical expertise of slugers
i would always (and still try to) read posts from the prominant slug
members just because they usually say something interesting or of
reasonable importance.
I cant say im mr on topic, but i do think things need to be more
linux oriented.
I see solutions as being...
a) dividing the lists
b) booting people who offend often
i think dividing is the way, somewhat like the freebsd lists, although
not to the same extreme.
im thinking
slug-spam
slug-questions
slug-l33t
spam being general discussion
questions being newbie questions and general technical queries, this
could be divided into hardware and software, or kde and gnome, x and
cli.. whatever
l33t would be people who dream in c syntac, who cant see any point to
running a graphical interface, people who get pissed off and recode
sections of the kernel or glibc to suit their needs (eg. non-newbies)
i dont think these can be really well controlled, but i think people
will tend to fall in line if topic is held well
