I believe I've solved this problem. Found "alias sound off" in
/etc/modules.conf and changed it to "alias sound on" and now my mixer
can be accessed, BUT now the CD player can not access /dev/cdrom. It was
working before.
I'm fast coming to the conclusion that I've held off going straight to
Debian for the wrong reasons. Can it be any harder to get working?
