hi slugs and thanks for the replies.

the reason for getting rid of sendmail, which has served me well for a few
years, is because it's not working anymore. ie. i can't connect to the
email server running sendmail on rh6.2 from either mandrake 6.2 or
NT. however i used to be able to easily. just change the sendmail.cf
file and away you go. i even rebuilt the email machine!

now whatever i do it won't let me get onto the box. tried a new
sendmail.cf file, tried linuxconf, still not working. i can read the mail
*at* the email server, just can't connect to it from any other client
machine. i've spent ages trying to reconfig it. i know it's a bit of a cop
out and i've asked this list for help about it but no progress so far. i
just want to open email up from the desktop using netscape mail, thats
all. just getting a bit frustrated i suppose.

so i thought i'd try something else, unless of course i'm doing something
stupid *probably right there*, but i can't figure it out. so any
suggestions before i ditch it and go for something else?

thanks all
ben
