Is this to _send_ a mail or to _retreive_ a mail. If you are having
problems picking up mail I suspect it is probably nothing to do with
sendmail if it works on the local machine.

What program do you use when you do it locally? Its probably going
straight to the mbox files. Are you using POP or IMAP on your client? Have
you setup any ipchains or tcpwrappers on the box that are stopping remote 
connections. What happens when you telnet to port 110 or 143 of the
server?

Anything in your log files (/var/log/messages, /var/log/secure, etc) that
indicate any errors?

Replacing sendmail probably won't fix that, I would say its something
else.
