Lilypond sounds good, but after looking at the install requirements when
it barfed on make, I'm going to try MusixTex first as I have latex
working. The reason for this was the four other packages you have to
install for Lilypond to work (python, guile, flex and bison).

When you are looking at something that you want to keep using for over
ten years, this isn't a consideration.

What is a consideration is that Tex/latex has been around almost since I
started using computers and Lilypond relies on a host of other packages
that have only been around for a comparatively very short time, so
having failed first go, it will get put onto the "when I have spare time
list" {:-).

Of course, I haven't been able to get a successful download of MusixTex
yet, so things might change {:-)

Thanks for the leads.
