As a fairly recent Debian convert (last few months or so) I found that
the installation was the hardest part. Once you could get into the system
and apt-get to your hearts content it was positively dreamy (well, perhaps
"dreamy" is a bit much for an OS!).
As both a sysadmin and a user, installing Debian was by the best
decision I ever made. It's not perfect (like I *still* cant get my Maestro sound
chips to work under Debian when they worked under RH) but it's streets
ahead of everything else I've used. You'll find it especially useful as
you learn to tweak /etc/apt/sources.list :)
