Don't bother fighting with a language just to learn it - go for something
simple, straight-forward, and well defined.

Ooops! My apologies, I really meant to say Python. ;)

If the bulk of what you do is web based, then go for PHP. You can also use
it as a conventional script processor as well, for DB crunching etc. PHP
gives a quick'n'dirty approach to web stuff, whilst with Python, you'll have
to deal with many of the intricacies yourself (which is often a good thing,
but it doesn't sound like you're interested in the random details).

I'm not much of a Perl fan, or at least I haven't been dragged kicking and
screaming into so-called enlightenment yet. Maybe one day. :)
