At work, we use RadView WebLoad internally in our offices for benchmarking
our web systems. Sadly, this is a commercial product, and it only runs on
NT & Solaris/sparc.
You'll want to be careful with such tests anyway (We all remember mindcraft,
no? - fortunately 2.4 is out now and we're starting to catch up again) - I
suggest trying a lower cost of ownership & ease of administration/migration
approach [since Linux is closer to Solaris than NT/W2K is].
If they want to refuse Linux/i386 due to skript kiddies, then you might even
want to try pushing linux/ppc on the G3s and/or G4s (since pretty much all
of the exploits publically availible out there target ix86, not ppc or other
platforms).
