Wow can't believe how many people based in the UK are on SLUG. Just
goes to show SLUG is one of the best user groups in the world!

I actually just cancelled my Surftime application and will stick with
this for the next week. On Wednesday I get DSL installed, but not the
ordinary DSL. 40 quid a month is way over my pain threshold, especially
considering I don't have a job and am still rapidly burning through my
Aussie pesetas.
Instead I'm getting Home Choice's video on demand box installed. This
has a serial port that can be clocked to 115000 bps for 20 quid a month.
Not quite DSL or cable but better than a modem. Should be lower latency
too, I expect.

Well I live in W9 -- not exactly out in the sticks -- and can't get
cable net access. They're as slow as Telstra were until Optus came
along. <sigh>
