Minor point -> "apt-cache search <blah>" is a lot faster if you're at a
terminal. :)

I'm on a potato box at the moment:
scooter:/etc/modutils# apt-cache search mgetty
mgetty-viewfax - Program for displaying Group-3 Fax files under X.
mgetty-fax - Faxing tools for mgetty.
mgetty-docs - Documentation Package for mgetty
mgetty - Smart Modem getty replacement
mgetty-voice - Voicemail handler for mgetty
The output from your error implies there's something in the database, so
"apt-cache search mgetty-fax" will probably return something. I'm sorry I
can't test out right now, but all the machines around me are potatoes.
