That is a SIG.
Up till now, A Fest/fest, in slug talk has been a one day special event,
although I've always advocated quarterly Install and Config Fests (ride
the wave).

As I understand it, you are offering to organise a regular get together
where the topic for discussion is Debian and its bits and pieces.
Perhaps with a speaker, perhaps not. I don't want to see this offer
buried in discussion about some apparent splitting the list. I hope the
slug committee will accept your offer soon.

Having a seperate list is not an issue in my books. I don't remember
anyone saying that all Debian Questions would have to go to that list
and I wouldn't support that.

I expect that having a Deb-Sig list (or any sig list) would result in
more messages, more involvement, more activity. If you have a list that
is just Debian, then you would be more inclinded to post the minutia of
Debian that you might be holding back now so as not to upset people on
the full slug list.

It is probably also not a good idea to post to the full list sig
discussions on who they might want get as a speaker, who is organising
the pizza, etc. The alternative is that Sig discussions go underground
and a Deb-cabal springs up.

A SIG is also a small stepping stone. If people can cut their teeth by
being involved in a sig, helping run it, etc, then they gain the skills
and experience to run full Slug meetings, Fests (which we are sadly
lacking in organisers for).
