It could be similar to my old SGI system that used a drive sled. The sled had 2
internal connectors for scsi and ID that plugged into into the drive. The sled
then plugged into a single ribbon cable back to the motherboard. This
arrangement allowed the ID to be set by the system.
The other (although unlikely) possibility is that the other wires carry power.
