I suppose I still do for most of my clients who do not have big backup 
volumes.

What I try to do is rsynch their critical data from one box to another 
and then Zip compress (that makes it readable by both Linux and Windows) 
and then burn to CD-R. At less than $1 per day I find it is the most 
economic backup there is.

As I say you really can only do it where there is less than about 1GB of 
data, but that covers most SMEs, which is the bulk of my clients.
