Terry, which doco specifically are you looking for?
I have installed Linux on a Compaq Presario 1615,whic is a P133, 
so a bit later that your h/ware.  When I took ownership of the machine 
it didn't have one of these secret Compaq partitions, and I don't 
know if it ever did.  Anyway, it still functions fine.  From what 
I can remember, some of the older ones (like your?) possibly put 
parts of the BIOS on this partition, and therefore wiping it IS BAD!
