The "diag" partition is for doing things like disk and memory diags, bios updates, 
changing bios settings, etc. It's not ESSENTIAL, but it can be good when diagnosing 
problems...

There is a Compaq-provided doco on installing Linux on these boxen - I'll post the URL 
when I can dig it up.
