the 2 main security things linked to this topis is that some CPE's (DSL or Cable) are not properly configured and so some attacks are possible (reconfigure subscribers settings), and the fact that on cable, you share the media, which may lead to traffic sniff and directed attacks to addresses which would not be router on the internet.
