Isn't USB around a few Meg/sec at best? That means it would take a few
hours to backup. Another factor of two in storage requirements (ie 6
months down the track) and that solution may not be viable anymore.
Ethernet or Firewire would be better. Besides USB is very limited in
length. It was desined for keyboards and accessories that are literally
next to the machine. Tape has the capacity to handle the storage
requirements of 20G and room for expansion but there seem to be an
aversion to tape esp by Windows people. 

Network the data to another box via ethernet at 10MB/s or 100MB/s and
ftp it from there offsite.
