Howdy David,

I've been watching DVD movies on my SuSE Linux 7.2 box for about a year or so
now. A few different players have developed over time, but basically I
recommend xine (http://xine.sourceforge.net) combined with the DVD-NAV plugin
(http://dvd.sourceforge.net) which will let you watch encrypted DVDs and
provides menu support to a degree. Also, I have successfully used the
CaptainCSS plugin (http://www.captaincss.tk) which also decrypts and has menu
support. Just grab the source and compile!

Regarding your second question, I believe the drive will have no trouble
reading CD or DVDs, though I'm not entirely sure. It shouldn't need special
drivers or anything like that.

Hope that helps,

David J. Helstroom.
