Check out http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/toshiba.html for a lot of comprehensive "HOWTOs" from people with them. I have a Dell 8000 and they're fab with Debian Woody/Sid. The only problem lingering is some interference between the LTmodem driver and the IR port.
