My previous reply documents some of the necessary information.  Here are 
the bits I missed.

When you edit the file I mentioned (/etc/sysconfig/i18n), you will need 
to change from the default font (lat0-sun16) to one you will find when 
you look in /lib/kbd/consolefonts.  I chose lat0-08.  You need to choose 
one with an english character set and is also 8 pixels(?) in height 
(hence the 08 or in some cases 8x8) if you want 50 lines.  To get 43 
lines you might try the xxx-10 fonts.
