Hello SLUG members

I am new to SLUG and I hope that the following request for assistance is
acceptable in this exhalted company.

I am a strong supporter of the open source philosophy and I have been
attempting to use Linux exclusively, at home at least. I use it in my
teaching whenever possible in the Windows site where I work. I have
RedHat 6.1 running on a pentium 166 and on the weekend I installed
Mandrake 9.0 onto an AMDK63 (a very easy installation, by the way) from
the disks on the cover of this month's Australian Personal Computer
magazine. I thought that I would try before buying the boxed set.

My problem is Internet access. I can make a connection using ppp,
evidenced by the route and ipcongig commands which show a connection.
However, ftp attempts in an xterm get a "No route to host" error
message, and the browser cannot find URLs or even IP addresses.

I have checked the /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/host.conf files and they
are the same as those on the (fully functional) RedHat machine.

My question is: What other configuration files should I check and
compare with the RedHat installation? I have tried just about every
combination of parameters in the graphical kppp configuration tool, to
no avail.

Thank you,
Bill Chivers
