Hi All,

There's a small news article about Linux users and ISP's at:
http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,5259987%255E15306,00.html

It shows why it's important *not* to pretend to be a windoze user
when dealing with ISPs, and reinforces what most people already
understand - that smaller companies will be more responsive/helpful
with Linux than the larger. (There is no reason to be uncertain or
doubtful about using Linux, the article doesn't mention anything
about Telstra/Optus *banning* its use.)

Also, I'd say keep banging off the letters to Telstra/Optus. Because
ISPs support Mac, and Linux is poised to overtake Mac as the #2
desktop OS, I would guess that official ISP support for Linux is not
very far away - as long as ISPs clearly understand that that is what
the customer wants.

Finally, the article mentions how nice it is that Pacific Internet
mirrors lots 'o Linux stuff, providing free downloads. It's true.
I found the Debian install (via internet) to be quite hairy, but
the second and third times I did it, it was much easier. Obviously,
if I'd had to pay for those downloads, there wouldn't have been the
second and third "practice makes perfect" installations.

Thanks All,
--Tom
