Can SLUG be made subscriber only, or have some spam filters

The age old discussion on subscriber only or not: SLUG is not and
should remain not (in my opinion - actually I'd rather not see that
discussion again).
I disagree. All other lists that I am on are subscriber only and it
does keep the spam off the lists. I don't see it as being restrictive
by requiring the poster to subscribe if it keeps the crud off the list.
I get far too much crud from direct email to want to see extra spam
from useful mailing lists.
I agree it would, but I can also see the point for the other side of the
discussion, which has been well and truly had and the result of which is
in the archives. I believe it came down to a financial member "vote" -
but I could be way wrong on that one. I just remember the last
discussion being "conclusive". If you feel that strongly about it maybe
bring it up with the committee or at the AGM.
I suspect the recent increase in spam is to do with the change
over of server. Give the filter some time and it will decrease -
assuming the filter is on of course (as the SLUG spam headers are no
longer present in messages).
I suspect not. I can see yo indication of spam trapping in the headers,
as you pointed out, and my 'out of the box' spamassassin does recognize
spam in SLUG.
What I meant was that I found the spam to be minimal before the server
went down. The old server definitely had spamassassin running as it
placed headers fields in each message. They are now missing, but so is
the old server, which most likely means either spamassassin is not
running yet on the new server (there doesn't seem to be enough spam for
this to be the case), or it is and is "learning" from scratch. Either
way give it some time. I'm sure the people who set up the new server
have nothing better to do ;)
