And my personal favourite: an engineering graduate who divided by 2 'cause it 
gave the right answer !!!!

    Numerial differenciation and integration:
    samples s1 s2 s3 s4 s5 ....
    slope from s3-s1 s4-s2 s5-s3 ... (all good)
    area s1+s3 s2+s4 s3+s5 ...       ie s1+s2+s2+s3+s3...+s(n-1)+s(n-1)+sn
