I've been asked to get a PDA phone for my wife, about which I know
zilch.
Can anyone suggest a retailer in or near the Sydney CBD that actually
doesn't faint when I say the word "linux", or alternatively, is there a
model that is just so good that nothing else is worth considering (yea..
that was a joke).
I looked into this a while ago and it wasn't much fun. Hopefully
someone has some newer info that proves me wrong.
I have owned:
Nokia 9210
Sony Ericsson P910i
Nokia 7710
The best of those was probably the P910i, but none of them were that
great at all.
I now use my old T39m.
I recommend going for a PDA with phone function, not a phone with PDA function.
There's two major options:
* HP running familiar: http://familiar.handhelds.org/
* HTC running Linux: http://www.xda-developers.com/
HTC make all the O2, i-mate, etc.
None of these options are perfect and most of the development seems to
focus on the PDA, rather than phone features. Getting incoming audio
seems to be regarded as a major achievement and getting any input from
the microphone requires some kind of voodoo.
http://www.ow.com.au is good for browsing models, but you may be able
to buy cheaper elsewhere.
