Do you un-maximize (restore) it or do you resize it from a maximized
state? Are you using metacity or sawfish? I can resize a maximized
window in sawfish, not sure about metacity. It may be in auto-expand
mode when you first load it up because it is "maximized". Just a
guess.

It starts up maximised. If I click the 'restore' window decoration it stays maximised so I have to resize it.

I'm using gnome in ubuntu 6.10. No full screen problems with firefox.
 I launch it manually.
Im using Enlightenment as WM and not sure how to get back to Metacity which is the default in Gnome.

I have used Enlightenments save window size and it doesnt work - maybe E does not go well with Gnome.
