But were talking "buying a machine for me" so I would just go buy a machine 
built to spec at some white box maker. Go for a Intel 965/975 based 
motherboard with Dual Core cpu and a Nvidia video card with dual DVI. Intel 
boards are very well supported in Linux and Nvidia cards work well. If you 
purchase a NV40 based Nvidia card you will soon have 2D/3D supported with 
open source drivers created by nouveau (see link).
