That's basically what people in the Dell booth told me (as much as you can
trust their knowledge).
I've since installed Debian Etch on my E520 and everything works smoothly
(including the wide screen and 3D graphics) except that I still didn't get
to configure audio. It comes with some ICH8-based audio chip which so far I
couldn't convince ALSA to talk to, though at some stage I got xfmedia to
play something through it (maybe through OSS?).

also, could you have a look at my fresh post with a quote from pioneer
and see what you make of it?


I don't consider myself a hardware guru but the configuration you sent looks
reasonably "main stream". There isn't enough details about the audio
hardware but I suppose if they sell it with Ubuntu pre-installed then it's
supported.
I think Ubuntu has a good wiki site which lists supported hardware.
