I have 2 x LG SuperMulti SATA DVD W/R Drives in my setup. They work really well, and burning has been more reliable than was with the old PATA style drives. I don't know if it is my imagination or not, but they certainly seem to burn quicker too, and with less I/O wait from the CPU point of view (monitored using TOP). I am using both MythUbuntu & OpenSUSE 10.3 without issues, but I suspect Iif your having issues then it is BIOS based problems. Once Linux is up and running no problems this end.
I did however have to specify AHCI mode on all my IDE ports (my mother board uses Gigabyte SATA2 Chipset for both eSATA and GSATA2). GA- MA790FX-DQ6 AMD SB600, IT971B, RTL811B & 790FX chipsets.
Hope this assists. Cheers. Grahame -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
