Morris' "Basics of Web Design, HTML5 CSS3" is a very good choice as it steps the student through web-page construction and shows how to build on those examples.
Another contender is "Introducing HTML5", Bruce Lawson and Remy Sharp, New Riders, ISBN 978-0-13-262942-3 http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0132629429 I'm not sure how much CSS3 is in it tho... Sample chapter: http://www.peachpit.com/content/images/9780321687296/samplepages/0321687299.pdf Way back when I did Ugrad webdesign we used Peachpit Press "Visual Quickstart Guides" as they had the best "from the ground up" explanations. Elizabeth Castro has an HTML5 Visual Quickstart Guide due for release in Dec '11 - whilst it's a long way off, it's worth keeping in mind for semester 1 2012. http://www.amazon.com/HTML-Visual-QuickStart-Guide-7th/dp/0321719611 As for browsers: Firefox still does not display HTML5 transitions, so it's best to stick with a "webkit" enabled browser: Chromium (Chrome), Midori, or Uzbl are very good. cheers, Meryl. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
