This is what we have always had on slugnet from way back when it started in 1992 or so. We have maintained it as informal though. The problem is that a lot of people who got into using email were not put through a formal email etiquette training and hence are not aware of the nuances and best practices. And tools they used (mostly MS stuff) did not encourage the proper bottom-post style. Serendipitously, I was just explaining email styles to my 10 and 8 year olds and your email came in handy to show as an example.
