I'd say that the video output is out of frequency range of the monitor. I'd guess that you have to edit your xorg.conf and set right the frequency output to be compatible with your monitor...I can't remember the exact details you need to configure; happened to me once with Opensuse; and it worked out for me with editing xorg.conf
