The "input signal out of range" message indicates that your video card
is pushing your monitor (or LCD panel) too hard. It would seem that the
installer did not correctly detect your monitor's capabilities, and thus
it did not set up the video correctly.

Without knowing more about your hardware, it is difficult to give you
specific advice. As well, one wishes to avoid giving you very technical
advice which you might not understand, or (worse!) be condescending by
not making the advice technical enough. If you can tell us about your
background and what you know about your computer (manufacturer, model
number, age) then we can better advise.

What you might try on your own are some other distributions. In
particular, since I can see that you are comfortable with burning CDs,
why not try some live CDs? (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_cd for
more info.) Live CDs are a good way to test your hardware for
compatibility before committing an installation to hard disk.

If you do not know much about your hardware, I suggest that you start
with live CDs that describe themselves as "light weight" but make sure
you get one that does have a GUI. I would suggest that you try them in
this order:

1. Damn Small Linux (very light weight): http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
2. Xubuntu live CD (moderate weight): http://www.xubuntu.org/get
3. The live CD from one of the major distributions (best on modern
hardware):

Fedora (http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora)
OpenSuse (http://software.opensuse.org/)
Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download, or locally at
http://ubuntu.sg/download_ubuntu)

Disclaimer: I use Ubuntu myself.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
