Hi, I had a similar memory issue a week ago and it ended up being a bug in the BIOS. The system would boot extremely slow (too slow that I never ended up booting it all the way) with 8GB of memory for 32 bit server edition and 64 bit. 6GB worked fine. After updating the BIOS firmware to the latest everything worked fine.
Most likely not the issue, but worth investigating.
