First, let me explain why the installer can login to the airBridge with
his latop on public IP. By default, the airBridge being client device
and its gateway is set to 0.0.0.0, and internally add routing on it, so
you can login into it no matter what IP your PC is. This only work if
the PC is attached behind the airBridge Ethernet segment.
Secondly, this may not work on Win98SE. Need to confirm.
Thirdly, in order to search the airBridge from the wireless side, it has
to be on the same subnet as the airBridge and that the device's primary
port to be set to wireless.
My recommendation is to set to the same subnet to avoid confusion or
other error.

Subject: [smartBridges] Searching for airBridges
I've got the weirdest thing going on.
When my installer puts in an airBridge, he uses a public IP address on
his laptop and has no problem logging into the airBridge, configuring it
for its new IP address (192.168.7.x/255.255.0.0), setting it to the
proper AP, etc, etc, etc.
On my laptop, I can never see an airBridge unless my PCMCIA card is on
the 192.168.x.x subnet. Why's that? (he uses XP and I use Win98SE)
And stranger still... My servers at the NOC can never see a radio that
he programs. If I open up airBridge simpleMonitor and click the Search
button, not only does his radios never come up on the screen, but they
never show up in the arp -a list. What's up with that? Dittos for my
laptop. When I plug my laptop into the switch at my NOC or connect
wirelessly, I can never see the radios he programs.
And yes, they do work! I can ping the client's *router*'s address, and
*sometimes* their radio. ..but the radio doesn't come up on the search
screen and it sometimes doesn't respond to pings. As soon as I plug in
and program the radio (change it to a 192.168.5.x IP), voila! it shows
up in any search screen (laptop, noc, whatever).
I'm stumped. What's going on?
(Tom.. I'll need Eje's screwdriver when you're done with it)
