I have to chime in here. A white paper should not be required to correctly read proper dbm values on a 802.11b device. A conversion table should be required. A properly designed software package that tells you what you have out of the box is required. My Cisco Aironet cards are great for this, it is always within 10% of my spectrum analyzer.
WTF? Cant smartbridges even get a simple RSSI display correct??? They need to study other 802.11b systems for a while I guess... -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Dimitrios Sidiropoulos Sent: Friday, August 01, 2003 2:57 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [smartBridges] Strange dbm values Jerr, If you do not feel confused enough, here is a whitepaper for ya : www.wildpackets.com/elements/whitepapers/ Converting_Signal_Strength.pdf Dimitri > -----Original Message----- > From: Jeremy Parr [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Saturday, August 02, 2003 12:42 AM > To: sB Tech Support > Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' > Subject: Strange dbm values > > > > Hey Smartbridges, > > > > Any word on the dbm signal strength readings? > > > > http://www.islandbell.com/~jparr/hellasignal.jpg > > > > This is obviously wrong, since the highest I have ever seen with a > PCMCIA > > card and a pigtail is -50 or so. > > > The PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribe smartBridges <yournickname> To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribe smartBridges) Archives: http://archives.part-15.org The PART-15.ORG smartBridges Discussion List To Join: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type subscribe smartBridges <yournickname> To Remove: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (in the body type unsubscribe smartBridges) Archives: http://archives.part-15.org
