You may not have a clear Fresnel Zone.
You may have clear line of sight but if you are surrounded by 50-60 foot trees
that only gives you 20- 30 ft clearance. If you have 40 ft tree are
.5 mile mark that you can just see the tower over it could be hurting you
signal. If this is the case Horizontal polarity may help. Also
netstumbler/ministubler is great for testing the signal strength without have to
associate with the ap.
