I just have to chime in with an "Amen".  Most speed tests are popular and therefore bogged down lately.  The last couple of weeks with all the virus/trojan/dos crap have been especially bad - and have directly effected throughput

That's why we specify in our policies that any speed test to be done is
only valid if it is to OUR speedtest on OUR website. We can't control the
bandwidth between us and 2Wire, or DSLReports, or whoever they want
to test from this week. So we state it up front. The internet is a volatile mesh
of comingled networks that are owned by a myriad of companies that have
loyalties to no one. We guarantee your speed and connectivity to our network
and that's it. Nobody out there will give you anything better. If they do, take it.

Offer them this choice...

- Cheap
- Fast
- Reliable

Pick two.

Of course a phone call at 6AM every day would drive me to the
point where I would say FINE. Drive out there, test the bandwidth
show them that they are getting AWESOME speed, then hand them
a bill for $65 for the truck roll.

Then enjoy sleeping in..

What do you do when a customer refuses to listen, when they haven't had a single timeout in 4 days and have 2mbit to the office all the time (sometimes spiking to 5mbit) and they are still insisting on calling at 6 am to wine that some Indian site isn't loading properly ? I MEAN JESUS DO I CONTROL THE INTERNET?
