Does the elderly have any problems with microwave ovens ? If not then they are safe and no issues.
FYI Micorwave ovens run in 2.4Ghz and if you not seen it they can cause REALLY high interference in 2.4Ghz. For example when I sit at the dining room table (20' from our microwave oven and 20' from our AP no obstruction to either) as soon as someone runs the microwave oven I lose connection to the AP.
