I'm not going to say anything about Brilan because I don't know about it.. But.. Mikrotik is not a pain once you gotten the GUI up and running it is very easy if you understand TCP/IP and routing. If you don't know TCP/IP or routing then NO router os will be easy. The CLI in MikroTik if you read over the manual and learn how it works is actually very easy to work with. Any time you want to be given your options hit tab twice type in next option then hit tab twice again and you get the new options. It makes it really easy to do things without knowing the commands or have a printed manual. Winbox to me at least is very self explanatory. I can't say that about the java stuff they had in 2.5 but 2.5 is years old.
As for support MT might sometimes not be the quickest to answer and sometimes I know they get very frustrated especially when the one asking for support show a lack of understanding of TCP/IP and routing (not saying you do) which understandable can be very frustrating because at $45 you shouldn't expect a 101 lesson in TCP/IP or routing. Also there are other means of support. I offer paid support for MT if you need help I'm more then willing to help you out (but for a fee of course) and often if you buy the hardware from me and you need some basic help and hand holding in getting started I will try my best to help you going to certain limits. On a complete router that I sell for $365 don't expect to get 3-5 hours of free technical support.. Sure If I would sell the same unit for $995 then I would have no problem throwing in 3-5 hours free technical support but now I sell it as cheap as possible to make it as affordable unit for everyone. As for hopes v2.8 of MikroTik has very nice bw configuration one rule for upload and download. Heck even 2.7 if you just want to bandwidth limit a customer don't take anything extra. Just create one rule for up and one for down. For $45 you can hardly get much better.
