Video chain boycotts Warner films
The UK's biggest video rental chain is boycotting hit films from the Warner
Bros studio after a row about prices.

The shop will not be stocking the police thriller Training Day, which stars
Denzel Washington in an Oscar-winning performance.

" We do not believe it is in our customers' interest to support the AOL Time
Warner strategy "

Blockbuster spokesman

And it will also boycott forthcoming DVD and video releases of the
award-winning Mexican film Y Tu Mama Tambien and Mel Gibson's Vietnam epic
We Were Soldiers.

The dispute began after the Warner Bros parent company, AOL Time Warner, put
up the price of DVD copies to rental dealers.

A Blockbuster spokesman said: "In response to AOL Time Warner's most recent
decision, Blockbuster will not be stocking selected movies released by AOL
Time Warner, to rent or buy on both DVD and VHS in any of its stores.

"We do not believe it is in our customers' interest to support the AOL Time
Warner strategy, and we apologise for any inconvenience to our customers."

Now a second video chain, Primetime, is also refusing to stock the new
Warner releases.

But a spokeswoman for Warner defended the pricing changes.

"UK copyright law allows a higher price to be charged to rental dealers.

"We believe that our new pricing structure should allow the rental dealer to
continue to offer a competitive price to the end consumer," said the
spokesman.
