I don't know why this happens, but chances are that you execute smartctl without admin rights on your Vista box, which might cause troubles. Could you try to call "smartctl -a" again on an account with admin rights, or alternatively, ensure you have activated the "Run this Program as an Administrator" box under properties->compatibility of the smartctl.exe file ("mit Admin Rechten ausführen"). The disk WDC WD5000AACS should already be in the drives database.
