Hmm, I think you should get the same result, "administrator rights" should be 
enough,
but I have to admit that don't know Vista at all.
Are there any more rights than "admin rights"? Strange.

Database: Sorry to be not clear enough. It's in CVS since 7 weeks, there is no 
released version
yet, but it will be in smartmontools 5.39.
