To keep you data balanced, why don't you mirror each of the 2TB
drive with one of the 1TB drives and have a 5x1TB mirrors?
I don't understand what you mean Ian.
3x1+1TB mirrors and 2x1+2TB mirrors. ZFS will treat this the same as
5x1+1TB mirrors.
The box I'm working with as 12 drive cages. One cage is going to hot
spare and the other is going to be a SLOG. So, I have 10 cages for
storage.
I currently have 8x1TB RE4 drives. I wanna fill up the last 2 drive
cages, but I figured if I'm going to buy drives I might as well get
2TB or 3TB red drives. However, maybe it isn't worth the hassle.
I've just read and been told on other mailing lists that ZFS doesn't
care as much as hardware RAID about having all the same drive size and
type.
It doesn't, the smallest drive size in a vdev will be be used. So if
you mirror a 1TB drive and a 2TB drive, you have a 1TB mirror.
